About the Author

The Best $1 You Will Ever Spend!

After reading about Cynthia Stafford's amazing lottery win and how she credited much of her success to Joseph Murphy's work, I decided to give this kindle book a try. The Power of the Subconscious Mind exceeded my expectations in many ways.

I've read a lot of LOA books, especially in the past couple of years...some good, some so-so, some just "get rich quick" schemes for the authors, or so it often seems. And when it comes to the older books on this topic, they often seem dated and not relevant for people living in today's world.

The Power of the Subconscious Mind is a winner, in all respects.

It IS extremely relevant, for anyone, at any stage in life.

It is NOT preachy, although it's obvious that the author did have strong religious beliefs, he doesn't "preach" or push a particular creed or religion at any time in this book.

His message is for everyone seeking an happy, healthier and more prosperous life. And who isn't?? ;-)

The practical advice in this book is easy to follow and powerful. Enjoyable, easy and not a chore!! A nice change from some other books on the topic I've read and gave up on.

I make it a point to re-read at least a couple of chapters, every day or two, as a good reminder and pick me up. I've had some excellent results already, following many of the suggestions in this book.

No, I haven't won 112 MILLION as Cynthia Stafford did, but I've had a lot of smaller wins so far, and not just when it comes to financial gains. As Murphy so wisely states in this book, money and prosperity ARE very important, but they are not the whole story when it comes to living a successful and happy life.

If you are debating about what LOA to buy, you won't be sorry you choose this one!

Great self-help title that is still relevant today

I came across this title while looking through older self-help titles. I have books like The Power of Positive Thinking, The Magic of Believing, The Secret, etc., and I was curious about this title by Joseph Murphy. All self-help books seem to be based on the same general principles of making a decision, see yourself achieving your goal or getting the thing you want, and then work like crazy to get it. Stay focused on the goal and don't force anything. The Universe will deliver.

This title has all that and some additional insights into belief, self-esteem, but it also explains why you might be failing at something because of wrong thinking, and how to correct it. I liked it very much. It was well-organized, and easy to read. I highly recommend it.

GREAT BOOK EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS AND IMPROVE YOUR LIFE. I know all caps is yelling and I think this book should be a must read and I think it deserves a yelling how great it is from the rooftops. If you follow even half of the suggestions then your life can't help but improve.

Special 30th anniversary "issue" of this classic pulp fanzine

Echoes 30 is a special 30th anniversary of "Echoes", a long running, but now defunct, pulp fanzine. It appeared during the early pulp fandom period, before the advent of POD changed and revamped pulp fan publishing and ushered in the current "New Pulp" era. "Echoes" was published by Tom & Ginger Johnson for 100 issues starting in 1982 and lasting over ten years, then for a period of time it was just an 'adzine'. Its last new issue was "Echoes Revisited", published about 10 years ago.

This book is a collection of articles, mainly written by Tom, but a few by Will Murray. Not all appeared in Echoes, and a few are original, never before published works. You need to read the fine print in the indicia to find out where. And a few pulp reprints are also included.

You have:

* "The Bloody Seven" by Ginger, talking about the 7 major pulp collectors.
* "Fantastic Fighting Men of Fiction", is an article focusing on 'pulp' characters with clear fighting skills: judo, karate, savate, etc.
* "Some Original Pulp Heroes", a series of short (2-4-6 pages) of articles on second and third level pulp heroes. Some who had their own magazines, some who only lasted one story. I would have liked some information on the availability in current reprint works, maybe some info on new stories using these characters.
* "Secret Service Aurelius Smith", on RTM Scott's character, which apparently got him the gig to write the first 2 Spider novels.
* "The Shadow's Ladies", on the female characters in the Shadow
* "An Essay on New Pulp Heroes", mainly on the characters who cropped up about 10 or so years back, mainly in the other fanzines the Johnson's published. Several have since be reprinted in new collections. This is a new work, never before seen print before. I would have liked to have seen info on where these characters appeared, are available to read. I am familiar with some, but not all, and that info would really help the reader.

The closest we'll get to a "Green Ghost Companion". I really wish someone would do a reasonably priced reprint of these stories, hint, hint.

Poorly Organized and Lacking Information

This is a 351 page full color hardback guide book. It is written for the Playstation controls. It comes with a code to view the guide online as well.

The guide is very poorly organized, there is a great deal of missing information, and the information present is not explained well. There are entire sections of collectibles missing. The complex battle mechanics are only lightly explained. The data tables have no explanation for what numbers mean in many places. Within an hour of playing the game, I acquired a collectible not shown in the guide. There is no table of contents or glossary, so finding things requires lots of flipping through sections. The maps seem well done and useful so far. I have not used the walkthrough section to adequately judge it.

I've had no problems with the strategy guide since I've been using it. The instructions, wording, and font are all easy to read in the proper lighting and they're careful about spoiling too much of the story before you get there on certain parts. The book is pretty big, about the same size as the Tales of Xillia 2 Collector's strategy guide and uses the same kind of material that makes it a durable hardcover.

It's still easy to rip the pages if you're not careful of course, but only because they're printed on a thin, high gloss paper for easy page flipping. It's a nice book just like the Tales of Xillia 2 one.

Geat cookbook at a great price

I would highly reccomend this cookbook to anyone wanting to learn about Turkish cooking. I was in Istanbul recently and the local book store wanted over $100.00 USD for it. My girlfriend and I took a cooking class our last night there and when asked about a good cookbook the owner/chef pulled this one off the shelf. It's a beautiful cookbook with great recipes and beautiful photographs. You won't be dissapointed.

Fabulous Value - Wonderful Cookbook

I ordered 12 copies of the version for $14,00 listed as a remainder, for gifts and was astonished to see that the book was a hardbound reprint from 2009, absolutely new and in great condition, no sign of a remainder stamp or anything similar - just a reprint of the fabulous cookbook I had bought years ago in Istanbul and used often - great, authentic recipes. I have a number of Turkish cookbooks - this is by far the best.

My preferred choice for Turkish food

There are not so many Turkish cookbooks available in English. This is the best of the lot in my mind. It contains all the classics. Personally, I like that there are a lot of veggie dishes (especially the meze) described. In my view Middle Eastern cuisines tend to overcook their meat. Still the book contains a fair share of meat dishes if that is your plate.

Somewhat irritatingly the author has written four other books on Turkish food. Turkish Meze: The Little Dishes of the Eastern Mediterranean and The Turkish Kitchen contains a lot of instructional photo of the cooking process. This is not needed since Turkish food isn't very complex too book. I only browsed those two books in the book store but there seems to be a lot of overlap with the current book. So I would go with the current book. Alternatively you can go with the two books listed above. You need to get both of them to roughly cover the same domain. I have not seen the two other books on Turkish cuisine by the author.

Since the author has written cook books from many regions I was somewhat afraid of the authenticity of the current book. However, it turns out that the author has lived several years in Turkey so I do not consider this a real problem.

I have given the book five stars, but don't expect the same quality and details as the best books on French or Italian cuisine provide.

Great for graduate level intro class

I taught the second semester of multivariate statistics to graduate students at our school of social work. Although graduate level, most of our students have very rudimentary at best statistical skills so the second semester began with linear regressions. I decided to introduce them to Stata so that they would have experience with at least a second statistical package - most know SPSS - and learn about the usefulness of this program. I selected Dr. Acock's book as a good way of getting them to learn how to use Stata in as painless a way as possible. The book fit the bill perfectly. It is written very clearly and walks you through many of the basics of Stata and provides good tips on post-estimation, a few tricks here and there, and a bit of humor.

Students who already know Stata or who have an advanced knowledge of statistics would not find this book that useful but for beginning courses and students, it is pitched just right. Now, if I only had a companion volume that walked through more advanced regression models in a similar way, I would have my texts for the class and could put to rest the venerable Tabachnick and Fidell text, which was perfect in its day but has become dated. I understand Dr. Acock is at work on such a volume and I will definitely have a look before launching into the course again in 2012.

The best book for beginners

This is the book I have been waiting for! It assumes no prior knowledge of STATA and goes step-by-step through practical exercises that a person handling data would need to do in everyday work. This book would have helped me a ton during my graduate courses, as I did not have any formal introduction to STATA and pieced together commands from various books and websites. Thank you, Alan Acock and STATA Press, for recognizing that not everyone is innately adept at programming. If you are a beginner or find yourself spinning your wheels with commands, this book is what you need.

As a PhD student,I found this book quite usefull.This book is great and easy to read.It gives you as much as you need in shortest time.If you don't have enough experince using statistical softwares such as R or SAS or any other advanced packages this book would be very helpful.

About the Author
Philip Cooke is senior lecturer in the School of Humanities at the University of Strathclyde. He is the author of many works on the Italian resistance, including The Italian Resistance: An Anthology and The Legacy of the Italian Resistance. He is also joint editor of the quarterly journal Modern Italy. He lives in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ben H. Shepherd is a reader in history at Glasgow Caledonian University. He specializes in the military history of Germany and Austria during the first half of the twentieth century, with particular focus on the origins and conduct of counterinsurgency warfare. He is the author of War in the Wild East: The German Army and Soviet Partisans and Terror in the Balkans: German Armies and Partisan Warfare. He is also coeditor of the collection War in a Twilight World. He lives in Glasgow, Scotland.

This Is the Textbook version of Corprate Fraud

This book is excellent and very readable. It is the textbook version of Corporate Fraud Handbook: Prevention and Detection by the same author which costs less. So unless you are using this in class or teach from it get the Corporate Fraud Handbook...it costs less. Either way you won't be sorry for having the book. It is worth it.

Excellent overview of Fraud Examination

I needed this book for a required Forensic Accounting class at my college. I have to say, it was one of the more interesting textbooks I have ever read. This text incorporates a lot of case studies, which is interesting. The author is also extremely well known in his field, and his knowledge is very evident. I especially liked the way the text was organized, with an overview of the type of fraud, and then details about how the fraud is committed, and then a detail of what type of internal controls would have prevented or detected the fraud. Most chapters also have a list of computer tests you can run to detect fraud, which I imagine could be very helpful for the business owner/accountant. I think this text would be perfect for not only a college setting, but for anyone currently working in business that is worried about fraud in their organization.

Good read...just buy it in print!

Easy to read. I purchased this for a class and will be continuing to use this in the future. The cases make the required reading that much more enjoyable because they are interesting and tie the material together nicely. 1-star deduction is for Kindle format. I hated it. While I like that the book is searchable on Kindle, I did not care for the print that could not be enlarged.
