I bought this book for veterinary school as it was a required textbook. I was so pleased to find this on amazon as it is much more expensive to buy in the bookstore. I really enjoyed this book.
As far as medical books go, I thought this one was easy to understand. It does a great job at explaining things and was a perfect supplementation to my class. This really help understand lectures and notes. It helped even more when I needed to study for the test as this is what I reference the most. I was very pleased by the book.

Easy to follow dissection book

For the most part it reads in a logical way that allows groups to have one person read and the others follow instructions fairly easily. There are some nice diagrams for some sections like the muscles. These diagrams depict medial, lateral, cranial, and caudal views as well as cross section views. This is very helpful. The diagrams on nerves and arteries are okay. These are a little harder to follow because exact location may vary by dog and these don't always set as neat as muscles. The heart section is sparse.You will need some other book/notes to properly orient yourself with various internal structures of the heart. The abdominal section is pretty well done with good pictures and directions. The cranial dissection is hit and miss and I deviated from many of the directions because they didn't follow well.

It's not a book that I really use to study from. I might use it as a quick reference, but our class notes provide better exam information. This is a very basic directional book that you'll likely deviate from to find the structures you're looking for.

Why places require certain outdated materials for class is beyond me other than just being lazy. Book has moderate helpful info, much better books you can find that are not out of date. Sure, a hip is not going to change location but so many other books are more helpful than this one. If you have to have it for a class, see if you can get it from a library than go out and get a really helpful book. . Unfortunately this copy reeks horribly of mildew, you can even see it on the pages. Tried leaving outside, spraying then ziplock it shut, nothing has worked.

Great buy for the price

I have been studying Spanish as a hobby for about six months now and I can honestly say that this book has accelerated my learning by leaps and bounds. This book alone will not teach a complete beginner how to speak Spanish. Having said that however, this book is a great compliment to any Spanish textbooks or someone taking a class. Every time I pick it up, I learn something new. So many topics here that don't seem to be covered in any of the textbooks or classes I have taken. The section on idioms is especially helpful and this book really cleared up my confusion with regards to the "subjunctive mood." Beginners and intermediate students with a basic working knowledge of Spanish will gain a lot here, but even advanced students and native speakers can benefit as well. Any student of Spanish simply cannot pass this up, easily worth double the price.

Great tool, but some previous knowledge of Spanish is required.

This not your typical Spanish tutoring book. This is not Spanish for Dummies, which by the way I was not impressed with. This is a book about grammar, which is tutoring above and beyond translation S to E or E to S. This is a book that teaches how sentences should be put together and more. How to use de and del or other inticasies. You really need to know some Spanish, then hope to advance beyond just vocabulary.

Extremely Helpful Resource

This little book is a lot smaller than I thought it would be! However the size does not impact the wealth of knowledge this book contains. I just started a college level Spanish class and of course grammar is the hardest thing for me right now. This book has been a wonderful reference and supplement to the course materials.

Just this morning I was studying for my exam and had a question about telling time in Spanish, I was going to hop on google for some help, but pulled out this book first and my questioned was answered perfectly.

If you are looking for an easy to use reference manual for common joinery, this is your jam.

If the military wrote a field manual for joinery, this would be the equivalent of SERE school.

Everything is explained in epiphany- yielding precision. Exercises and practice are encouraged throughout the book, too!

Taunton never fails to deliver.

Beginners? Have you been looking for a manual that doesn't leave the key details out (you know, the kind that seem to withhold key information for some pretentious reason)- this manual is going to inspire and educate you.

Pictures are clear, descriptions are thorough with plenty of footnotes and internal references. The language is concise and only relevant to the subject.

Advanced cats? Wanna get to the bones of the sketches in "the soul of a tree" ???

One of the most complete guides to joinery I have ever seen, in my approximate 50 years of doing woodwork.
The book covers, Dovetails,Finger Joints.Mortises and Tenons,Rabbets,Dadoes and Grooves,Scarf Joints and Lap and Bridle Joints. Also gives a rundown on Hand Tools, Portable Hand Tools, Machines,Butt Joints and Mitre Joints.Clear professional photos and sketches.A Complete Coloured, Illustrated Guide to Joinery.

Best book I've found on the topic.

The subject might be a bit narrow for a lot of people, but if you enjoy woodworking (let's face it, the pros have 20 years of daily experience and aren't going to need books), this book is amazing. With over 30 years of hobby experience, I still learned a lot from this book and found it a far better (and convenient) resource than any other book. More convenient than the web, even.

Content is comprehensive. Some comments about "missing information" from other reviews makes me think they hadn't read the whole book. Most joins are covered at least twice. Once generally, to explain why you'd want to the method and what to expect, concerns and cautions, etc. The join will then be covered a second time, and in greater detail showing the steps and highlighting the things you need to watch. Excellent color images everywhere. While this doesn't show every last step in the process, it shows just enough to help anyone with even a little exposure to the basic tools... saw, chisel, etc.

In terms of the book, itself, the quality of materials, binding, printing... everything is top notch. Very heavy for it's size, too. You could have this as a coffee-table book if you wanted. Short of being leather bound, I don't know what they could do to improve appearance and construction.

I now have three favorite woodworking books, this one for joints, one on tools, and one on the wood itself.

Methods for practical applications of the technology is also provided in an easy to understand form for people skilled in Chemical, Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Laymen can find usefull information to better understand the potential benefits, concerns, and hazards of the technology. The disk allows the ability to calculate practical operating conditions and other technical information such as physical properties. It is a very readable book.

Highly recommended.

Sufficiently well written and concise that I read and annotated the entire book within the first week of my immunology course. It's well-organized and at a proper level of depth; in fact, after comparing the course syllabus and lectures to this textbook, I have completely ignored the course materials in favor of using the text (disclosure: I took an immunology course in undergrad). It is clear that some topics are only superficially covered, but in every instance, a deeper level of detail would be excessive for medical student purposes. This book sets out with a particular goal in mind (discussed in the preface), and it does exactly that — no more, no less. Highly recommended.

Update: Crushed the final for my course, beating the mean by over 1 standard deviation. Your mileage may vary, but I attribute a lot of my understanding of immunology to this book.

The book is organized well and would seem to offer a great explanation of immunology, other than the fact that the author's writing style is very wordy and kind of weird in my opinion. I don't really understand sentences fully the first time I read them, and not because of the content but because of how it is written. I think it's a very passive and wordy writing style. That's just my opinion though. It seem to be a great book, but I don't like his sentence structure and word order. I'll give an example:

On page 13, the author gives an overview on how antigens are presented to T cells and B cells. In the first few sentences, he says that specialized cells present antigens to T cells. In the next few, he addresses how antigens are presented to B cells like this: "Less is known about cells that may capture antigens for display to B lymphocytes. B lymphocytes may directly recognize the antigens of microbes (either released or on the surface of the microbes), or macrophages lining the lymphatic channels may capture antigens and display them to B cells." The use of the word 'may' makes it seem like it is not understood how antigens are presented to B cells, and they may do this or they may do that, we don't know. But you later find out that they do both (at least as far as I know), and the author probably should have used the word 'can,' as in they can do this or they can do that, but we don't know a lot about it.

I'd suggest reading a little bit of the book in the preview to see if you like it. If you do like the writing style, the book is great. Everything is laid out well and its all good information with great explanations without any fluff.

Edit: I've read more of the book now, and I like it a lot more. I don't run into problems with his writing style anymore. I don't know if it changed throughout the first couple chapter, or I got used to it, or it was just me in the first chapter. One thing I have noticed is that the author seems to do a really good job about introducing material. Every time I start reading about a new idea, i have seen it before earlier in the book. He does this in a really seamless and fluid manner, and it is really helpful. It is really easy to understand new topics as he talks about them. I changed my rating from 3/5 to 5/5.

Great Beginners Immunology book!

My professor said this was one of the best immunology books he's seen (at least for beginners), and this is the type of guy you trust when he gives his opinion. After my class, I'd have to agree.

The book is organized from simple concepts to more advanced ones, with each chapter building upon the previous. Sometimes it can get a little confusing, because your thinking "Wait...it's chapter 8 and this stuff we talked about in chapter 3?" Then you get to the end of the chapter and you realize that they are going way more in depth than before, and adding in new theories and information.

There are a few mistakes, but our professor found most of them. The visuals are really intense, even down to what color things are specifies individual things (except for a few mistakes, as mentioned).

I'd recommend making sure you get a new copy so you get the online version also. It's super handy to be able to search for terms and find them through all the chapters really quick.

Mostly worthless without video

I bought this text to study for an ASL exam, but did not purchase the video. Please let this serve as a warning that if you do not purchase the video, this book is almost worthless. It is intended to go along with the video. A lot of the sellers are only selling the text, so beware.

Since I already knew some sign, this text served as a refresher for my exam, but I wasn't able to get the full use out of it.
